Is Medical Tourism Recession-Proof?

Tourism may be on a decline globally today (flat growth at best), but there is a subsector in this industry that seems to be relatively immune. In fact, it may well be that this sector is booming due to the recession.

I am talking about medical tourism. Since the health care industry is relatively recession-proof, and since people are looking for more affordable options, they opt to get treated in cheaper locations, like the boomtowns of medical tourism.
