Piled Up Snow Can Damage Your Shrubs

I like to keep the landscaping in my front yard looking its best. After all, its the first thing people notice when going to your house or driving past. In my front yard I have beautiful shrubs that are about chest high. They are probably the most important things to me when it comes to kepping my yard looking nice.~~

In the summer I keep them trimmed and healthy. But when winter hits, its sometimes a little hard to keep them in the right shape. I live in Northwestern Pennsylvania and we get hit with snow pretty bad. This winter has been the worst we had in a long time.

I noticed that my shrubs had broken branches and that they were getting big holes in the middle of each bush. I figured that the snow pilling on top of them was causing them to deform. The snow piles on them and weighs them down causing the snow to fall through and put stress on the branches, making them spread apart.

So what I am saying is, if you are as concerned about your landscape staying nice during the winter months, I would suggest you clean your bushes and shrubs off regularly when you get bad snow falls.
